Ruth Smith (Rongowhakaata, Te Aitanga-ā-Mahaki) holds a bachelors degree in te reo Māori with first class honors from EIT. She is a graduate of Te Panekiretanga o te Reo and is an experienced translator with a Te Toi Reo Māori licence. She is passionate about te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and strives to work to advance the language through teaching, translation, television work and consultancy. She has lectured in the Māori language at Te Pinakitanga ki te reo Kairangi (Te Wānanga o Aotearoa), Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi and the Eastern Institute of Technology.
